Our Services

At the Lethbridge Muslim Association (LMA), we are committed to providing a wide range of spiritual, educational, and community services to support the Muslim community in their religious and personal lives.

Daily Salah (Prayers)

Our Masjid offers all five daily Salahs in congregation, allowing the community to come together in worship.

What Is Salah?
  • Salah is one of the 5 pillars of Islam and it is a prayer which is offered 5 times daily. Muslims face the Ka’bah in Makkah when performing this prayer.
Why do Muslims perform Salah?
  • The primary purpose of Salah is to worship and please Allah. Muslims perform Salah as a means of communication with Allah and to be grateful to Allah for everything they have been given.
How is Salah performed?
  • Salah is a physical action with spiritual benefits and it involves a number of physical movements such as standing, bowing, prostrating and sitting. It also involves the recitation of the Holy Qur’an along with a number of Duas (supplications).
Weekly Jumu’ah (Friday Prayer)

Jumu’ah Salah is held every Friday in congregation, accompanied by a Khutbah (sermon) delivered by the Imam.

What is Jumu'ah?

After Salah Halaqas

Short Halaqas (Islamic study sessions) are held after Salah, covering topics such as:

• Hadith (Prophetic teachings)

• Tafsir (Explanation of the Quran)

• General Islamic knowledge

Halaqas are held based on the Imam’s availability and Salah timings.

What is an After Salah Halaqah?
  • An After Salah Halaqah is a short gathering after prayer where Islamic teachings, Quranic reflections, and discussions on faith take place.
Who can attend an After Salah Halaqah?
  • Anyone is welcome to attend, including men, women, and youth who want to learn more about Islam.
Nikah (Islamic Marriage Services)

We offer Nikah services in accordance with Islamic principles and the legal requirements of Alberta.

Process for Nikah at the Masjid:

1. Obtain a marriage license

2. Contact the Masjid to schedule the Nikah ceremony

3. Attend the ceremony with at least two witnesses

What is Nikah?
  • The Islamic marriage ceremony is known as a Nikah. The actual marriage ceremony is very simple. The man and woman will consent to their marriage and there will be a stipulated amount of money for Mahr (dowry) which the husband will give to his wife. There is also a requirement of 2 witnesses for the Nikah to be valid.
What is the process for a Nikah in the Masjid?
  • The process is simple: The couple will be required to get a marriage license from a registry in Alberta. They will then contact the Masjid and inform us of their intent and set a date for their Nikah. The Nikah will be performed by the registered Imam or responsible person for Marriages either in the Masjid or at a location of their choice. There will be a requirement of at least 2 witnesses for the marriage to be valid.
Janazah (Funeral Services)

We provide Islamic funeral services in accordance with Islamic traditions, including:

• Ghusl (spiritual washing of the deceased)

• Kafn (shrouding the body)

• Janazah Salah (funeral prayer)

• Burial arrangements

What is Janazah?
  • Funerals in Islam are known as Janazah. Islamic Funerals includes preperations before the burial, such as Ghusl (washing of the body), Kafn (dressing the body with a white burial shroud) and Salah (a special prayer offered for the deceased). The burial itself is done in the Muslim portion of a graveyard and according to the Sunnah (tradition of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
What to do in the event of a death?
  • In the event of a Janazah, please contact any responsible members at the Masjid as soon as possible so we can begin the preperations for the Janazah and we can give you more information on the next steps to take.
Qur’an & Islamic Classes

We offer regular Islamic classes for individuals of all ages who wish to:

• Learn Qur’an recitation & memorization

• Study Islamic teachings and Hadith

• Increase their Islamic knowledge

  • Our classes focus on Qur’an recitation, memorization, Islamic teachings, and Hadith study for all ages.
Who can join these classes?
  • Anyone interested in learning about Islam, from children to adults, is welcome to join.
Shahadah (Accepting Islam)

If you are interested in Islam or wish to embrace Islam, we are here to assist you.

What Is Islam?
  • Islam is not just a religion but rather it is a complete way of life. Islam literally means submission and every Muslim lives in submission only to Allah.
How can a person accept Islam?
  • Any individual, irrespective of gender, race, color, identity or religion is welcome to accept Islam. To accept Islam, a person simply needs to say the words “AshHadu AlLaa Ilaaha Illallah Wa AshHadu Anna Muhammad Rasoolullah” which means “I testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad (pbuh) is the prophet/messenger of Allah”.
What should I do if I am ready to accept Islam?
  • Please contact us at the earliest possible time and we will be able to accomodate you at the Masjid or a place of your choosing for you to say your Shahadah (testimony of faith).
Classes for New Muslims

For those who have recently accepted Islam, we offer beginner-friendly classes to help them:

• Understand the basics of Islam

• Learn how to perform Salah

• Gain essential Islamic knowledge

What can a person who is new to Islam learn?
  • If you are new to Islam, there are many things which you can learn about your new religion. You can learn about your beliefs, your obligations, ways to connect with (Allah), or anything about your new faith (Islam) in general.
What kind of classes can I attend?
  • For a person who is new to Islam, it is easy to be overwhelmed with the wealth of information which can be found online. It may be better to connect with your local Masjid and the people there to help guide you through the learning process of your new religion. Classes can be structured according to your needs and what you prefer to learn.
